Rename the Edmund Pettus Bridge for Congressman John Lewis

Rename the Edmund Pettus Bridge for Congressman John Lewis

Rename the Edmund Pettus Fridge after Congressman John Lewis because done Lewis is a civil rights icon and Edmund Pettus was a symbol of Confederate racism.

Why is this important?

It's an important thing to honor Congressman John Lewis who is the son of Alabama and show that Alabama has changed to understand the importance of civil rights for all people, especially since Congressman Lewis spilled blood on that bridge in 1963.

Reasons for signing

  • Because this is John Lewis at the March 7, 1965 March that was violently met by Alabama State Troopers at the end of the bridge: https://i.imgur.com/pOvikqF.jpg
  • Changing the name of this bridge to honor Mr. John Lewis, is not only the right thing to do to honor the fight and sacrifices that Mr. Lewis has endured, but would also send a strong message that we as Americans will not tolerate "symbols" of racism and oppression.
  • this would be the highest honor to give to a man who gave so much. #Alabamason
